Never too late: Women who have left violent partners posing as super heroes

The family violence happens more often than you imagine. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 3 women worldwide are physically or sexually abused.

Lithuanian movement “Women Speak” shot photo session with five women who gathered the courage to leave forever partners from who have been abused.

The purpose of this project is to show how strong and inspiring are the women who decide to leave violent partners and to encourage women who are still victims of violence to seek relief from such a relationship.

You should never accept the humiliation or to be a victim of violence. There is a different life out there – brighter, more beautiful and filled with hope. We are stronger than men. I really believe that every bad situation has a good side and that there is a solution to every problem.

You will regain the confidence when you get out of a violent relationship. Many women come to the centers for crisis situations after they become victims of physical violence. But there is also psychological abuse. And sometimes it is even worse because it’s harder to face the invisible consequences of violence.

First time when your partner becomes violent towards you, speak and tell your family and friends. The woman is not an object, she does not have to rely on other people’s opinions about it. She can say “no” to violence by refusing to be a victim.

The longer you live in a violent environment, the harder it is to come out of it. But never too late to get out of such a relationship, even if you have 5 children.

There are women who spend all of their lives in violent relationships: they blame others, complain, make sacrifices of themselves. Take action!
