A paediatrician has taken to Facebook to share his views on child vaccinations, quashing the beliefs some people have that doctors push for vaccinations, just to get a bonus.
With child vaccinations being a hot topic among parents, one US paediatrician, under the name of ‘Mikey’ on Facebook, is aiming to set the record straight, reminding parents of the importance of getting children vaccinated.
Mikey wrote his informative post in response to an existing comment from a user known as Todd, which said: ‘Bonus for vaccinating? They believe that?’
In the US, it’s common for patients to pay health insurance for their medical care.
Mikey, who works in the US, explained that the reason doctors get bonuses for vaccinating is because they reduce insurance costs by making ‘patients less likely to need expensive hospital stays’.
He also pointed out that he didn’t work hard during his many years of medical training, ‘Just so I could hurt kids’.
Here’s Mikey’s full post about the importance of vaccinating:
And it seems people have loved Mikey’s response, as the post has now had nearly 8,000 likes and been shared nearly 7,000 times.
However, in the comments, there were mixed opinions from parents:
