The presidential candidate has some inspiring words for a young girl who dreams of being Commander in Chief when she grows up.
A 7-year-old girl whose name is Lilly wants to be president so much when she grows up, she wants to change her name to “Lillary” in honor of her mentor: Hillary Clinton. It’s a fact the Democratic nominee for the highest job in the land found so touching, she wrote a letter to the little girl to tell her to never give up on her dream of becoming Commander in Chief. And even if you don’t plan to vote for Hillary, you will be touched by her words of encouragement to little Lilly.
“I hope you know that you don’t have to change [your name] to become president,” Clinton writes in the letter to the child, which her mom, Jennifer Rosen-Heinz’s friend, who goes by the handle @NurseKelsey, shared on Twitter.
Clinton goes on to tell Lilly that if she cares enough about what she believes in, there’s no stopping her! For now, the presidential hopeful advises the 7-year-old to speak up in class, take credit for her ideas, and have confidence in herself. “Don’t give up!” the mom and grandmother goes on to write.
“I may become the first woman president, but you, Lilly, could be next!” Clinton ends her letter, which according to the Huffington Post, was initially submitted via the candidate’s website.
Rosen-Heinz told the Huffington Post about her daughter receiving the letter, “Seeing the effect those words had on my daughter, I knew that these words were for her, but not just for her. They were really for ALL girls (and boys) in this country. Our children should know that they are not bounded by their name, by their gender, by the color of their skin.”
As a mom of three girls, I couldn’t agree more! Lilly for President!
