A teenage boy who embarked on a relationship with a woman almost twice his age has told of his joy of becoming a father for the first time – after delivering the baby himself.
Jack Fucile, 18, from Peterlee, County Durham, was just 16 when he got his much older girlfriend Kathleen Martin pregnant after the pair met online.
The pair, who have 14 years between them, struck up an unlikely romance after chatting on Facebook and shocked family members by announcing they were expecting a child just seven months later.
Now, they are determined to silence their critics by insisting they are a just like any other family after welcoming Jay, nine months.
Kathleen, also a mother to a 13 and a five-year-old, previously told how her waters broke after she was sent home from hospital last August.
Jack, a car valeter who had only just left school when he first met Kathleen, told the Hartlepool Mail: ‘I was scared but just overcame it and got on with it.’
Since Jay’s arrival, the proud couple have posted a series of photos of the adorable youngster on Facebook.
Speaking this week, the couple said they were ‘one big family’ and insisted that Jack gets on well with Kathleen’s eldest child, who is just five years younger than the new father.
Kathleen told the Sun: ‘Jack is really mature for his age. Despite the age difference, we got on really well.’
She added: ‘Once he got over the shock, he loved the fact that he was going to be a dad.
‘While other lads his age are hanging out with mates and drinking, Jack is here being a great father to baby Jay.’
